Skidmore posts win over Sage in opening day of tournament play

Saratoga Springs, NY–The Skidmore College volleyball team hosted the Gators of The Sage Colleges' on Friday night on the opening night of play in in the Skidmore Tournament. The host Thoroughbreds posted the 3-0 win, topping Sage 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 to improve to 10-7, while Sage drops to 7-11.

Sage's senior tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) led the team with her six kills and 10 digs, while senior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added three kills.

Junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) connected for seven digs, while senior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) tallied 13 setting assists with six digs.

The Gators return to play on Saturday at Skidmore, facing Cortland State at 11 a.m. and Nazareth College at 1 p.m.

Liebig now has 2,867 career setting assist, ranking her No. 3 all-time at Sage and her 176 career aces stand No. 7 all-time. Berard who ranks in both career kills and blocks at Sage now has 773 career kills and stands No. 7 all-time in kills. She has 141 career total blocks is in sole possession of the No. 8 spot at Sage. Schneiderman now has 858 career digs and is No. 19 at Sage on the career record book.

Sage is back in action on September 30 visiting Skidmore College for a 5 p.m. match with the Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, NY.
