Gators split results on opening day of Skyline Conference play

Nassau, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team opened play in the Skyline Conference on Saturday as they faced Maritime College and Farmingdale State College in a pair of league matches held at Nassau County Community College. Sage topped Maritime 3-0 in the first match, 25-23, 25-15, 25-20) and then dropped a 3-0 decision to the host Rams of Farmingdale State (25-17, 25-8, 25-13). Sage is now 6-10 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline.

Against the Privateers of Maritime College, the Gators got another double-double from team tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) as she had 11 kills with 14 digs. Senior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) posted six total blocks in the action with 10 kills, while graduate player Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Balston Spa) connected for 12 digs with four kills for the Gators.

Junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) connected for 17 digs to leads the teams, while senior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) tallied 30 setting assists with four digs and an ace.

In the nightcap, Sage took on FSC and fell to Rams, who are now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the league. Sage was paced by the performance of Berard as she and Campolieta each had six kills. Campolieta added 13 digs, while Scheiderman added eight digs. Liebig connected for 17 setting assists, while sophomore Amelia Taylor (Fort Edward NY/For Edward) picked up three kills.

By day's end, Liebig had racked up her 2,810 career setting assist, ranking her No. 3 all-time at Sage, while her 175 career aces stand No. 7 as she is now tied with Tiffany Magnino (175, 1999-2002). Berard who ranks in both career kills and blocks at Sage now has 753 career kills and stands No. 7 all-time, while her 140 career total blocks is tied for No. 8 with Lauren LaRoque (140, 1996-1999). Schneiderman now has 829  career digs and looking to join Sage's Top 20 as well with her efforts in the coming week.

Sage is back in action on September 27 hosting Hartwick College in a non-conference match to be held at Kahl Gym at 7 p.m.
