Sage Women's Volleyball Bests Fighting Tigers, 3-0

Albany, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Fighting Tigers of SUNY-Cobleskill on Thursday evening in a non-conference match held at Kahl Gym.  Sage tallied an impressive 3-0 win, beating the Fighting Tigers, 25-16, 25-17, 25-15 to improve to 5-9 on the season. The loss puts Cobleskill at 6-6.

Senior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added a team-best seven kills in the action with a .238 attack percentage for Sage, while senior outside hitter and team tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added six kills with a .455 attack percentage. Berard tallied two digs with an ace and a block assist, while Campolieta added eight digs.

Sage's junior middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown), graduate player Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Balston Spa), and rookie Lauren Ferrucci (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbons) all added four kills each. Sage's senior tri-captain, setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) tallied 25 setting assists with four digs and an ace, while junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) connected for nine digs with four kills.

By day's end, Liebig had racked up her 2,766 career setting assist, ranking her No. 3 all-time at Sage, while her 174 career aces stand No. 8 all-time at Sage, just two shy of moving ahead of Tiffany Magnino (175, 1999-2002). Berard who ranks in both career kills and blocks at Sage now has 737 career kills and stands No. 7 all-time, while her 132 career total blocks in No. 9 all-time. Schneiderman now has 807 career digs and looking to join Sage's Top 20 as well with her efforts in the coming week.

Cobleskill's sophomore middle hitter Emilie Reimer (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck) picked up a match best 10 kills and had a .350 attack percentage for the Fighting Tigers. Rookie outside Rachel Sherman (Galway, NY/Galway) tallied 17 digs, while senior libero Gabby Clark (Oneida, NY/Oneida) added 18 digs with an ace.

Sage is back in action on September 24 travelling to Long Island where they will open Skyline Conference play facing Farmingdale State and Maritime in tri-match action to be held at Nassau County Community College.

SUNY-Cobleskill will travel to Penn State Abington for a NEAC Conference Tri-Match with Penn State Abington and Bryn Athyn, also on September 24.
