Oneonta State tops Sage, 3-1 in volleyball action

Albany, NY--The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Red Dragons of Oneonta State in the final regular-season home match of the year. Oneonta State posted a 3-1 win (25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-15) to improve to 17-11, while the Gators drop to 20-10.

Oneonta State took the first two sets before Sage posted a come from behind win in set three, 25-23. In the final set, Sage and Oneonta State were deadlocked at 10-10. Oneonta went one a 2-0 run and Sage rebounded to tie the action at 12-12 before Oneonta State went up 14-12. Sage pulled within a point, down 14-13, before the Red Dragons went up 19-13 and held on for the victory.

Sage's junior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) racked up 11 kills with five digs and a pair of block assists. Junior outside hitter Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) tallied 10 kills for Sage.

Senior middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added four kills, while junior libero Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Spa) had 23 digs and junior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) had 26 setting assists with two aces. Junior Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added six dig, while junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) added 18 digs.

Sage's senior Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added five kills with five digs to aid the Gators in the action.

Oneonta's lineup combined for a .224 attack percentage, while senior outside hitter Jill Darpino (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) added nine kills with a .389 attack percentage. Sophomore Melissa Voyer (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), senior Kristen Polan (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach), and sophomore Justine Abbate (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) all had eight kills each, while Abbate added six kills with a solo block. The Red Dragons also got 25 setting assists from senior setter Karly Greco (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport), while junior setter Jessica Pelacio (verplanck, NY/Hendrick Hudson) added 17 setting assists. Senior libero Allyson Coniglione (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) racked up 22 digs with two aces, while Greco had four aces. Junior Paige Carpluk (Yaphank, NY/Bellport) added 19 digs with three aces.

Mango stands No. 8 at Sage with her 682 career kills, while Berard stands No. 9 in career kills as she has 643 kills, while Robinson is now No. 12 with 594 career kills.

The Gators are back in action on Saturday, October 31 for the final Skyline Conference Tri-Match of the season at Sarah Lawrence College with St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in matches at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
