Volleyball takes two league wins as Skyline win streak grows to 24 matches!

Patchogue, NY--The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to the St. Joseph's College (LI) for the squad's first Skyline Conference tri-match of the 2015 season. Sage topped SUNY-Old Westbury first, 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-5) and then beat the host Golden Eagles of St. Joe's and also won, 3-0 (25-17, 25-27, 25-17).

With the wins, Sage improves to 12-7 overall and is now 2-0 in the conference.  Sage has now won 24 regular-season Skyline Conference matches. The win streak dates back to October 3, 2012. The last Skyline Conference setback for Sage in conference play was a loss on Oct. 3, 2012 (3-1 to Mt. St. Mary College).

Against Old Westbury, the Gators had a blistering team attack percentage of .405 as both junior Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) tallied nine kills each.

Sophomore middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added eight kills, while junior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) contributed seven kills.

Junior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) had 33 setting assists with an ace and a pair of digs. Junior libero Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Spa) had two aces, while junior Katy Rimawi (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) racked up four aces and chipped in with five digs. Wilder had 10 digs in the match with a perfect 8-0 effort on receptions.

Sophomore defensive specialist Missy Scheiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) led the Gators with 11 digs and had a pair of aces as the Gators combined for nine aces in the match and held the Panthers of Old Westbury to a -.097 attack percentage.

In the match with St. Joseph's, Nellis paced the Gators with her eight kills and had a .500 attack percentage. Sage held SJC to a 0.067 attack percentage and had 12 aces along the way. Wilder had seven aces and had 12 digs, while going a perfect 12-0 in reception attempts.  Scheiderman had 11 digs as well with an ace.

Sage's senior right side Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) tallied six kills with two aces and two digs, while Liebig had 28 setting assists with six digs and a block assist. Campolieta had seven kills, while Mango had five kills with a block assist.

Liebig now has 1,960 career setting assists and is ranked No. 4. She is closing in on her 2,000th career setting assist, which would make her one of just four Sage players with 2,000 or more career setting assists. Wilder has amassed 135 service aces already at Sage and vaulted to No. 8 on the Gator career list. Mango has 241 career blocks and stands fourth at Sage, while her 632 career kills is No. 9. Berard has 538 kills and is No. 10 and Robinson is right behind her with 534 career kills.

Sage is back in action on October 6 with a home non-conference match against Bard College at the Neff Center at 7 p.m. The Gators will hold the Battle of the Classes Night as the classes of Russell Sage College will compete that night in spirit and social media themed competitions.
