Gators earn win over MCLA, 3-1

Albany, NY--The Sage College's women's volleyball team hosted the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in the Kahl Center on Tuesday night. The Gators tallied a 3-1 win to improve to 7-8 overall, while MCLA falls to 4-10. Sage won the first set 25-14 and then the second, 25-16. The Trailblazers took the third set in a hard-fought 25-20 set. The Gators won the match with a 25-15 win in the final set.

Sage's rookie outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) connected on 14 kills, rookie middle hitter Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added 11 kills. Putriment connected on three aces on the night.

Sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 28 setting assists in the contest with 10 digs and two aces.  Gator senior libero, Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) racked up a team-best 17 digs to pace the team.

For the Trailblazer, freshman outside hitter, Taylor Warnock (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) had a team-best nine digs with four kills.  Senior middle hitter Kayla Bromback (Lee, MA/Lee) had eight kills in the contest, while freshman Bittany Kish (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) handed out 13 setting assists.

The Gators return to action on Sunday, September 25 hosting their 2011 Skyline Conference openers, a home tri-match in the Kahl Center commencing at noon with Yeshiva and St. Joseph's College.  MCLA hosts Eastern Nazarene and Bridgewater State in a home tri-match commencing at noon on September 24.
