Golden Bears trip up Sage, 3-0

Springfield, MA---The Golden Bears of Western New England College posted a 3-0 win over The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team on Wednesday evening. WNEC took the match 25-20, 25-16, 25-18 and improve to 3-5, while the Gators drop to 5-5.

Sage's rookie outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) connected on nine kills with 14 digs. Another of the Gator rookies, middle hitter Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) added five kills with an ace and a dig. Forte earned a spot on the Skyline Conference Honor Roll for her play last week.

Outside hitter, Emily DeChristopher (Richmondville, NY/Catskill-Richmondville) posted seven kills for the Gators as they combined for 27 kills on the night with 42 digs. The Gators rank 24th nationally in the first NCAA Division III statistics rankings released on September 14 with a 19.46 digs per set average.

Sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 23 setting assists with eight digs and two kills.

Sage returns to action again on September 16 and 17 as they compete at the Union College Invitational. Sage will face Utica College and No. 21 ranked Cortland State on the first day of competition in nearby Schenectady.
