Volleyball squad places second at Newbury Invitational; Putriment and Forte earn all-tourney honors

Brookline, MA---The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team competed on Saturday at Newbury College at the Nighthawk Invitational and wrapped the two-day event with a second place finish.

Sage dropped a 3-0 decision to Lasell College in the first match of the day and rebounded with a 3-0 win over Johnston State College. Sage stands at 5-4 on the year. Sage placed a pair of players on the all-tournament team as rookie middle hitter Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) and rookie outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) were both saluted for their outstanding play this weekend as Sage went 3-1 for the event.

Against Lasell, Putriment connected for 14 digs with seven kills. Forte had six total blocks with two block assists. Sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 18 setting assists, while rookie middle hitter Rebekah Parker (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) connected on five kills. .

Against Johnston State, Sage got 13 kills from Puriment, while Forte added nine kills. Cooney connected on 24 setting assists, while freshman defensive specialist Katelyn Drollette (Cadysville, NY/Saranac) added six serving aces for the Gators.

Sage returns to action again on September 14 as they face the Golden Bears of Western New England College in a 7 p.m. non-conference road match.
