Sage splits results on final day of Hamilton Invitational

Clinton, NY---The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team wrapped competition on Saturday afternoon at the Hamilton College Invitational.

Sage tallied a 3-1 win over SUNY-Canton in the opening match (26-24, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14). In the final contest for the event, Sage faced SUNY-Plattsburgh, but fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21). Sage is 1-3 on the young season and returns to action on September 6 hosting Bard College in the home opener. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the Kahl Center (Albany, NY) in the non-conference match.

Against SUNY-Canton, Sage's rookie Helen Putriment (Victory Falls, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added a double-double with her 15 kills and 27 digs, while sophomore setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 27 setting assists.

Senior defensive specialist Kelsey Wilson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) added 20 digs. Newcomer Helen Putriment (Victory Falls, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added 30 digs for the Gators.

Freshman defensive specialist Serena Heard (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added 17 digs in the match for the Gators, while freshman middle hitter Stacey Forte (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) nine kills.

Putriment was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play at the invitational.

Wilson added 18 digs and has already racked up 87 digs in four matched and continues her assault on Sage's career record book. Wilson now has 1,266 career digs and is in the third spot on the all-time Sage career record book, which is topped by Shannon Young (3,249, 2004-2007).
