Records fall for the women at RPI Capital District Championship

Troy, NY--Russell Sage College women's outdoor track and field team competed Friday afternoon at the nearby Capital District Championships, hosted by RPI. RSC's women's team added a pair of school records and finished in fourth place in the 10-team field with their score of 48 points. The hosts, RPI won the team competition after racking up 324 points.

Once again another men's field event saw a school record fall at the meet.

Newcomer Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady) broke the school record in the 400 meter hurdles with her time of 1:13.63, breaking the record set in 2017 by Sabrena Smith (1:14.90). Spivey also finished in 11th place in the 100 meter hurdles with her time of 18.54.

In the 400 meter run, rookie Charisma Losee (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) picked up 11th in 1:11.61 and sophomore Crystal Ivery (Cairo, NY/Cairo-Durham) was next in 1:11.91.

Rookie Ashley Rabbitt (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) broke RSC's record in the hammer for the second straight week, bettering her own record from last week's meet. She took home 11th place with her throw of 30.48 meters.

Junior Mackenzie Feeney (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) finished in sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.52, breaking her own record from earlier in the month of 2:27.83. Sophomore Elizabeth Ingellis (Kingston, NY/Kingston) posted a time of 5:11.63 and took home 11th place.

RSC also finished in third place in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 4:43.65 as Ivery, Spivey, Losee, and Feeney ran the relay.

 

The Gators are back in action on May 5-6 at the 2023 Empire 8 Outdoor Championship that will take place at Utica University.
