RSC Women's Track Team sets two school marks at Middlebury Winterfell Meet

Middlebury, VT — The Russell Sage College women's and men's indoor track and field teams travelled to Middlebury College on Saturday competing in the Winterfell Meet at Virtue Field House. The day marked the debuts of RSC's new head coach Nick Jones at the helm of the young Gator programs.

For Sage's women's team, two school records fell in the meet as the Gators finished in 10th place in the team scoring. Amherst captured the team crown with their 187.0 points.

While running in the 4 x 400 relay, RSC's foursome set a school record with a time of 4:42.36 taking home 12th place. Running the relay were sophomore Mackenzie Feeney (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties), rookie Amelia Geesler (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central), sophomore captain Emma Cronin (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich Central), and junior Julia Gerringer (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington).

Rookie Alyssa McClurg (Cropseyville, NY/Tamarac) also penned her name in the RSC record book as she took home 10th in the long jump on her performance on 4.40 meters. Sophomore Jasmine Zollman (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) had a leap of 4.04 meters and finished in 16th place in the event.

In the mile run, Feeney was 18th in 5:59.33, just ahead of Cronin who was 19th in 6:01.32.

In the weight throw, freshman Madalynn Walsh (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) was 20th with a toss of 7.46 meters and she added a 21st place finish in the shot put with her throw of 7.69 meters.

In the 60 meter dash, Geesler led the Gators with a time of 8.55 to take 13th place. Gerringer was 16th in 8.62, while McClurg was 18th in 8.76. Sophomore Anna Breidenbach (Monson, MA/Monson) took 26th in 9.24 seconds, while rookie Merideth Diegel (Albany, NY/Colonie) posted a time of 9.30 and was 27th. Zollman's time of 9.34 saw her take 28th in the event.

In the 200 meter dash both Gerringer and McClurg won their heats in the trials of the event, while Geesler finished third to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Gerringer picked up 12th in 28.68, while Geesler took home 17th in 28.78. McClurg posted a time of 30.64 and was 28th, while Diegel was 35th (31.40). Breidenbach had a time of 32.83 and posted a 44th place finish.

RSC is back in action on January 29 travelling to Utica College to compete in the Pioneer Invitational next Saturday.
