Flower and Van Alstyne to compete at 2019 AARTFC

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's outdoor track and field team is sending two student-athletes to compete at the 2019 All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships on May 15-16 at SUNY-Cortland. Sage's team is directed by rookie head coach David Taranto and assistant coach Spencer Patterson.

The two-day event will take place on the campus of SUNY-Cortland on May 15-16. Representing Sage will be junior Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) and freshman Kerry Flower (Schenactady, NY/Schalmont).

Van Alstyne will compete for the Gators in the shot put which take place on Thursday, May 16 at noon, while Flower will run in the women's 10,000 meter run which commences on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m.

The appearance by these Gators in this meet is a first for the Sage track and field programs. Van Alstyne owns the school records in the shot put, discus, and javelin.  While competing at the 2019 Empire 8 Championships at Houghton College on May 4, she broke her own school record in the shot put with her toss of 10.91 meters. She will look to add to that distance with hopes of achieving a national qualifying standard.

Flower has laid claim to the school records in the 1,500 meter run (5:09.88), the 5,000 meter run (19:02.96), and the 10,000 meter run (38:43.00). She had held the record in the 800 meter run until it was broken last week by a teammate, Sevi Travis. At one time this season, her time in the 10,000 meter had ranked as high as 27th. She is looking to crack back into the Top 50 with a strong showing at this meet.
