Van Alstyne Earns Empire 8 Track and Field Performer of the Week

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's outdoor track and field team had another performer honored after their record-setting performance at the 2019 Capital District Championship hosted by RPI. The Gators have continued to excel week in and week out under the guidance of rookie Head Coach David Taranto. His performers have broken nine different school records, while three events have been broken multiple times this spring. The Gators have earned individual acclaim as well.

Sage's junior Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) added two school record performances on Saturday as she broke her own mark in the shot put taking eighth place with a throw of 10.74 meters, bettering her record of 10.64 meters she set last week competing at the UAlbany Classic. She also broke the javelin record set in 2015 by Helen Putriment competing the Capital District Championship as well with a throw of 30.51 meters. Van Alstyne had a throw of 30.78 meters at the meet on Saturday.

Named the Empire 8 Track and Field Performer of the Week, Van Alstyne was also honored as Sage Athletic Honor Society inductee on Sunday at the Department of Athletics annual awards banquet.

Sage will be back in action on May 3-4 at the 2019 Empire 8 Championships which will be hosted by Houghton College.
