Van Alstyne Breaks two records, McAlonen adds to the day, while Leggett wins 1500 at UAlbany Meet

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were in action on Saturday at the UAlbany Spring Classic and once again the Gator men's and women's team continued their streak of breaking school records at the meet as they have now changed the Gator record book in five straight meets.

Sage's junior Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) added two school record performances on Saturday as she broke her own mark in the shot put taking fifth with a throw of 10.64 meters, bettering her record of 10.41 meters. She also broke the record in the discus throw as she had a throw of 29.09 meters and took seventh. She bettered the record set in 2017 by Logan Thayer of 28.78 meters.

In the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, freshman Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) posted a school record time in taking third place in the race in 13:14.25 bettering the record set in 2018 by current team member, sophomore Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker). Travis picked up fifth in the same race in 13:44.78.

Sage's senior co-captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) won the women's 1,500 meter run.

Senior co-captain Victoria Opalka (Fort Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) finished in 15th place in the 800 meter run in 2:46.91, while rookie Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) took home 21st in 3:21.24.

Also running in the 1,500 meter run for the Gators, junior Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) took 16th in 5:36.81, while Opalka took 18th in 5:38.31 and French took home 23rd in 6:41.56.

Flower finished in fourth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:22.30, while rookie Shanice Dominick (New York, NY/Automotive) took seventh in the 100 meter run in 14.85. Rookie Nicole Collazo (New York, NY/Repertory Company HS for the Theatre Arts) finished in fourth in the 400 meter run in 1:11.25. In the 100 meter hurdles, junior Joanna Tavolaro (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) posted a time of 18.98 and took eighth place.

Sage's women's 4 x 100 relay picked up third place in 57.60 as Tavolaro, Travis, Dominick and Collazo teamed in the race.

Tavolaro was fifth in the long jump with a performance of 4.39 meters, while junior Victoria Fisher (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 7.88 meters and also sixth in the javelin with a throw of 21.84 meters.
