Delhi, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's outdoor track and field squad competed at the SUNY-Delhi Bronco Invitational. For the fourth straight week, the Gators have continued to break school records.
Sage's rookie competitor Kerry Flower (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) picked up a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run in 2:33.53 just ahead of sophomore Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) who picked up eighth place in the race in 2:43.21. Flower's time broke the mark set by Travis earlier this season at the Mt. St. Mary Invitational on March 30 of 2:35.86.
In the shot put, Sage's junior Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) took sixth place with a throw of 10.41 meters bettering her own school mark from earlier this season (9.96 meters).
Senior co-captain Victoria Opalka (Fort Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) finished in third place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 22:29.40.
The Gator women were fourth in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 4:44.76 as Travis, Flower, rookie Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), and rookie Nicole Collazo (New York, NY/Repertory Company HS for the Theatre Arts) ran the race.
Collazo was ninth in the 100 meter run in 14.99, while rookie Shanice Dominick (New York, NY/Automotive) took 11th in 15.06. Junior Joanna Tavolaro (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) posted a time of 15.67 and took 17th. Rookie Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) took home 24th in 7:00.04.
In the 1,500 meter run McAlonen picked up 15th place in 5:42.75, while senior co-captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) finished in16th in 5:42.95. Junior Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) was right behind her in 17th in 5:43.38.
VanAlstyne was also seventh in the discus with her toss of 26.98 meters. Tavolaro took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4.40 meters. Junior Victoria Fisher (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) was 12th in the shot put with a throw of 8.18 meters and also sixth in the javelin with a throw of 22.80 meters.
Sage's team will be back in action on April 20 competing the University at Albany's Invitational.
