Sagan Leggett Honored as Empire 8 Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Rochester, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's track and field team had one team member honored on Monday with the release of the Empire 8 Weekly Players of the Week. Junior captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) became the first Sage track and field performer honored by the Empire 8 as she was named this week's Empire 8 Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Sage was in action this past Saturday at the Vassar College Invitational. In the women's competition, Vassar won the team crown with a score of 171, while Sage finished in seventh place with a score of 28 in the field of 10 teams.

Leggett broke the program's record in the 3,000 meter run as she posted a time of 11:47.22 to take home fifth place. She broke the record set in 2013 by Alaina Krueger (11:57) at the SUNY-Delhi Invitational.

Head Track and Field Coach, Zachary Williams noted, "We had some student-athletes run great races today, but the stand-out effort came from Sagan Leggett." Williams added, "She executed our race strategy perfectly and bettered the program record for the 3000 meter run by an impressive 10 seconds!"

Next up for the team, they will compete on April 29 at the Capital District Championship at RPI.
