Strong showing for Gator women at Mt. Holyoke Invitational

South Hadley, MA – Sage's women's track and field squad travelled to Massachusetts to compete at the Mt. Holyoke Spring Invitational. For Sage's women's team, the team crown went to Eastern Connecticut State University with a score of 148, while Sage took home 12th place with 6 points.

Rookie Olivia Leonard (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) picked up a sixth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with her time of 1:19.97.  In the 200 meter run, rookie Tariziana Thompson (Brussels, BE/Brussels American) made her debut and was 14th in 28.26.

Another Sage rookie Heather Dilcher (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) had a banner day as well as she was 16th in the 400 meter run in 1:12.35. She added a 29th place in the 200 meter run in 31:35 as well.

Junior Victoria Opalka (Fort Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) took 13th place in the 800 meter run in 2:45.70,  and added an 11th place finish in the 1,500 meter run in 5:35.93.

Newcomer Avian Pope (New York, NY/Manhattan Center for Science and Math) was the top finisher for the Gators in the 100 meter run in 14.03 and took 18th place. She added 17th in the 200 meter run in 29.28.  Junior Kadedra Allen (Troy, NY/Troy) added a 34th in the 100 meter run in 17.01.

Junior Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) posted a ninth place finish in the 1,500 run in 5:32.00.  She was 13th in the 5,000 meter run in 21:33.87. 

In the discus, rookie Arianna Burns (Malden Bridge, NY/Tech Valley) finished in sixth with her throw of 23.82 meters. She added a 13th place showing in the shot put with her mark of 6.33 meters.

In the women's 4 x 400 meter relay, Sage took 10th in 4:52.75. On the relay were Leonard, rookie Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker), sophomore Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia), and Dilcher.

Jones added a 14th place finish in the 1,500 meter run in 5:39.11.

Next up for the team, they will compete on April 17 at the Hamilton College Mid-Week Meet at 4 p.m.
