Women's Track and Field opens new year at Wesleyan Spring Meet

Middletown, CT –The Sage women's outdoor track and field squad opened the new season on Saturday competing at the Wesleyan University Spring Invitational. A non-team scored meet, Sage's women's team had a number of impressive showings in the first meet of the season.

On the women's side of the meet, junior Nyasia Irby (Great Neck, NY/Manhasset) posted a pair of impressive times in the 100 and 200 meter dash races. She finished in sixth in the 100 meter dash in 13.35 and took home 15th in the 200 in the race with her time of 28.05.

In the 100 meter dash, rookie Jordyn Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) picked up a 21st place finish in 13.88, while her twin sister Ariannah Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) posted a 23rd place finish in the 200 meter dash in 28.52.

In the women's 4 x 100 relay, Sage took home fifth place in 53.55 as they were paced by the fancy footwork of junior Krystal Lambert (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey), Ariannah Logan, Jordyn Logan, and Irby.

In the high jump, Jordyn Logan finished in 9th place with leap of 1.42 meters, while Ariannah Logan took 10th in the long jump with her mark of 4.51 meters.

In the 200 meter dash, DiBiaso picked up 56th in 34.83, while rookie Kadedra Allen (Troy, NY/Troy) added a 59th place showing in 36.35. In the 400 meter dash, rookie Hannah French (Berlin, NY/Berlin) added a 39th place finish in 6:33.90. In the 800 meter run, junior Melissa Grimaldi (Nassau, NY/Columbia) picked up 33rd in 3:26.91.

 

In the 100 meter hurdles, sophomore Sarah VanAernem (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) was 18th in 18.88, while she also took 24th in the long jump with her mark of 3.88 meters. Kadedra also placed in the long jump with a performance of 3.2 meters taking 28th.


Rookie Logan Thayer (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) was 21st in the shot put with her mark of 8.03 meters, while sophomore Samantha Phelps (Amsterdam, NY/Fonda Fultonville) added a 27th place finish with a throw of 5.98 meters. Teammates, junior Sarah Montgomery (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) and junior Michelle Tanner (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) added a mark of 5.51 meters and 4.92 meters, respectively to take 28th and 30th in the shot put.

 

Thayer took 21st in the discus with a throw of 26.01 meters, while Phelps was next in the event in 27th with a throw of 16.52 meters. Tanner rounded out Sage's scorers with a mark of 14.01 meters to take 29th in the event. The trio also competed in the javelin as Thayer was 19th (21.25 meters), Montgomery was 21st (17.09 meters), and Phelps next in 24th (15.77 meters).

 

Next up for the Gators is a competition on April 2 at Ramapo College as they travel to Mahwah, NJ to compete in the Roadrunner Invitational.
