RSC WOMEN'S TENNIS POSTS TWO WINS OVER UTICA TO CELEBRATE SENIOR DAY
Albany, NY – Russell Sage College's women's tennis team hosted Utica College on Saturday in conjunction with Senior Day. The Gators played Utica twice as they took the Empire 8 match 5-4 and swept the Pioneers in the second match, 5-2. RSC is now 5-6overall and 2-4 in the Empire 8. Utica drops to 1-8 overalland 1-5 in the league.
The Gators honored graduate student Claire Connolly (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), and seniors Priscilla Daquin (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) and Jillian Goralewski (Kingston, NY/Kingston).
In the league match, senior Ellen Lyga posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 singles over RSC's rookie Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady), 8-5. For the Gators, sophomore Gwen Eichen (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) picked up a win at No. 3 singles, 8-1 as beat Haley Dekin.
Connelly and Goralewski added wins at No.4 and No. 5 singles, respectively for the Gators. At No. 1 doubles, Spivey and junior Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Spa) collected the win, 8-6. Eichen and Connelly also combined for a Gator win at No. 2 doubles.
In the nightcap, Nuzzi, Spivey, Connolly, and Goralewski all posted wins in singles play, while the Gators also got a win at No. 3 doubles from the tandem of Eichen and Connolly to seal the victory.
