Pittsford, NY – Russell Sage College's women's tennis team fell 5-4 to St. John Fisher University in an Empire 8 match. SJFU is now 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the league, while the loss puts RSC at 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the Empire 8.
RSC held a 2-1 lead after doubles as the Gators took the first doubles match behind the play of sophomore Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and rookie Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady), 8-4. While at second doubles sophomore Gwendolyn Eichen (Moriah Center, NY/Moriah Central) and graduate player Claire Connolly (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) added a win at No. 2 doubles (8-7, 10-8).
Spivey added the 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and pushed her record to 7-1 in singles this fall as she beat Kathryn Strait. At No. 3 singles, Eichen collected the win.
