Gators Fall 5-4 at Bard

ANNADALE-ON-THE-HUDSON, NY – Russell Sage College’s women’s tennis team fell 5-4 on Saturday at Bard College in a non-conference match. The loss was the first of the season for the Gators as they drop to 2-1.

Bard held a 2-1 lead the Gators took the first doubles match behind the play of sophomore Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and rookie Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady), 8-7 (10-6).

RSC got singles victories at No. 2 singles as Spivey was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Maya Kelly. Sophomore Gwendolyn Eichen (Moriah Center, NY/Moriah Central) picked up a 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while senior Jillian Goralewski (Kingston, NY/Kingston) was a victor in three sets at No. 5 singles.

Spivey and Eichen remain unbeaten as they both stand at 3-0 in singles action this fall. Nuzzi and Spivey are also unbeaten in doubles play as they are 2-0 this fall.

The Gators have a short turnaround, playing tomorrow vs. Mount Saint Mary College. The home opener, to be played at Albany Academy, is set to start at 1:00 pm.
