Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's department of athletics announced their award winners for the 2021-2022 academic year at the annual awards banquet.  In addition to several honors bestowed for athletic and academic excellence, Sage also selected the Gator of the Year Award for the department's 21 varsity sports for the 2021-2022 year.

RSC's newcomer Gwen Eichen (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) was honored as the Gator of the Year in women's tennis.

Eichen played in all 10 matches this past fall and racked up four key victories over the course of the campaign to help the women's tennis team.

Head women's tennis coach Michael Branche remarked "Gwen joined the Tennis team in late August as a first-time tennis player." He added, "She embraced the sport and consistently gave her all to the sport. She quickly became one of our strongest players and a leader on the team. Her presence in practice and matches gave the team energy displaying what it truly means to be a Gator."
