Utica, NY – Russell Sage College's women's tennis team traveled to Utica College on Saturday for an Empire 8 contest. Utica slipped past the Gators, 5-4 to move to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference. RSC is now 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the league.
RSC's rookie Maddie Cherry (Las Vegas, NV/Odyssey Charter) continues her perfect streak on the fall is now 5-0 at No. 1 singles. She beat Utica's Ellen Lyga, 1-0 (won by retired). She teamed at No. 1 doubles with senior Taylor Gillespie (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) for an 8-0 win over Ellen Lyga and Paetra Heeren. Cherry's sister, Kenedy Cherry (Las Vegas, NV/Odyssey Charter) added a win at No. 3 singles in three sets, while rookie Gwen Eichen (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) recorded her second straight singles win as she was victorious at fourth singles.
The Gators are back in action on September 26 hosting Alfred University in an 11 a.m. Empire 8 match-up taking place at Tri-City Tennis Facility in Latham, NY.
