Abby Clobridge named Women's Tennis Gator of the Year

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' department of athletics recently announced the recipients of the department's annual awards.  Sage named senior Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) the 2019-2020 women's tennis Gator of the Year.

Head tennis coach Tom Fashouer remarked, "I am so impressed by the improvement Abbey has made in her four years at Sage." He continued, "She became our leader on and off the court.  As a fitting reward, she was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team at the very competitive first singles position.  She is going to be very difficult to replace and is so deserving of this award as our Gator of the Year!"

Clobridge wrapped her career helping the program to one of its most successful seasons having earned a berth in the Empire 8 Tournament and posting a 10-4 record with a 4-2 record in Empire 8 action. She was honored as a 2019 Empire 8 First Team All-Star as well along the way for her play in singles.

She also picked a selection to the 2019 Empire 8 Women's Tennis Sportswoman of the Year Team. On the 2019 season, Clobridge went 7-6 at first singles and added a 5-8 record in doubles action this fall. She was 4-2 in the league in singles play on the fall, while playing at first singles.

Sage's 2019 lineup tied the program's single-season wins mark having collected 10 wins. Sage's head coach Tom Fashouer is in sixth season as the women's tennis coach and guided the team to their first Empire 8 playoff appearance this fall with their success, which is a first as a member of the Empire 8. Twice now, Fashouer's lineup has earned 10 wins in a season as his 2017 team also captured 10 wins. Sage's women's tennis team has now had three 10-win seasons (2019, 2017, and 2008). This senior class on the 2019 team helped Sage collect two post-season appearances as the team earned a spot in the Skyline Conference Tournament in 2017.
