SAGE WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM MEMBERS HONORED BY THE EMPIRE 8

Hilton, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team had several players honored on Thursday with the release of the 2019 Empire 8 Women's Tennis All-Conference Team. Sage is coming off one of the program's most successful seasons having earned a berth in the Empire 8 Tournament and posting a 10-4 record with a 4-2 record in Empire 8 action.

Honored as the first Sage performer to garner First Team acclaim is senior Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) as she was selected to the first team at Singles. Senior Sadie Dunne (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was chosen to the Second Team at Singles, while sophomore Kaitlin Banks (Annapolis, MD/Mount Anthony Union) was named to the Honorable Mention Team at Singles.

Sage's tandem of senior Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) and her partner sophomore Taylor Gillespie (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) were named to the Second Team for Doubles, while senior Alison Trudo (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown) and junior Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans) were saluted as members of the Honorable Mention Doubles Team list.

Clobridge also picked a selection to the 2019 Empire 8 Women's Tennis Sportswoman of the Year Team. On the 2019 season, Clobridge went 7-6 at first singles and added a 5-8 record in doubles action this fall. She was 4-2 in the league in singles play on the fall, while playing at first singles.

Dunne went 8-4 in singles action and was also 4-2 in E8 play, while holding down the third singles position.  Banks was 8-4 in her first year at Sage and was also 4-2 in conference singles matches.

The duo of Jackson and Gillespie led the team with their impressive 12-1 record this fall and went 5-1 in conference matches playing at No. 2 doubles. Trudo and Cochrane went 10-2 this season at third doubles and added a 4-1 mark in conference competition as well as Sage strung together a seven-match win streak.

Sage's 2019 lineup tied the program's single-season wins mark having collected 10 wins. Sage's head coach Tom Fashouer is in sixth season as the women's tennis coach and guided the team to their first Empire 8 playoff appearance this fall with their success, which is a first as a member of the Empire 8. Twice now, Fahouer's lineup has earned 10 wins in a season as his 2017 team also captured 10 wins. Sage's women's tennis team has now had three 10-win seasons (2019, 2017, and 2008). This senior class on the 2019 team helped Sage collect two post-season appearances as the team earned a spot in the Skyline Conference Tournament in 2017.
