Women's Tennis Defeats Hartwick 9-0 on SR Day as Gators earn post-season spot

SAGE WOMEN'S TENNIS SWEEPS HARTWICK ON SENIOR DAY WITH 9-0 WIN; GATORS EARN NO. 3 SEED IN E8 TOURNAMENT

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the Hawks of Hartwick College on Sunday afternoon and posted a 9-0 win to collect the No. 3 seed in the 2019 Empire 8 Women's Tennis Tournament. With the victory, Sage is now 10-3 overall and went 4-2 in the Empire 8, while Hartwick drops to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in the league.

With Sunday's victory, the Gators have tied the program's single-season wins mark. Sage's head coach Tom Fashouer is in sixth season as the women's tennis coach and has guided the team to their first Empire 8 playoff appearance this fall with their success which is a first as a member of the Empire 8. On Sunday, the Gators tied a mark Fashouer's team set in 2017 after they captured 10 wins, marking his personal best showing with the squad.  The 10 wins, which ties the program's mark for the most wins in a season.  The 2008 teams set the record for most wins in a season after going 10-5 with a 7-2 record in the Skyline Conference. Sages 2017 Gators tied the record for most women's tennis wins in a season (10) which was set by the 2008 Gators that went 10-5 overall and 7-2 in the Skyline Conference.

Prior to Sunday's match Sage honored their 2019 seniors in conjunction with Senior Day. During their careers they have helped Sage collect two post-season appearances and have combined for a 32-22 record.

The seniors include Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park), Sadie Dunne (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman), and Alison Trudo (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown).

Playing at No. 1 singles, Clobridge earned a 7-5, 6-1 win to elevate record to 7-6 this fall. She teamed at No. 1 doubles with Dunne and beat Victoria Wilson and Hannah Pettis, 8-1 and now own a 5-7 record this fall with one another. Dunne was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 3 single, beating Hartwick's sophomore Jessica Best (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) to improve to 8-4 this season.

Jackson beat Pettis, 6-1, 6-9 at No. 2 singles, while adding an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles with her partner, sophomore Taylor Gillespie (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville). The duo of Jackson and Gillespie lead the Gators' double players this season with their 11-1 record.

Trudo delivered a win at No. 5 singles as she defeated Alyssa Wilson, 7-5, 6-1 and stands at 5-2 in singles action this year. Trudo teamed at third doubles with junior Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans) for an 8-2 win to help Sage to their third shutout win over an opponent this season.

Sage is back in action on October 18 travelling to Nazareth College for the 2019 Empire 8 Championship with a pair of Semifinal Matches on Friday and the finals on Saturday. Match times will be set later this week.
