SAGE'S WOMEN'S TENNIS COLLECTS 7-2 ROAD WIN TO IMPROVE TO 5-1
Castleton, VT—The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team traveled to Vermont to face the Spartans of Castleton University on Wednesday. Sage posted the 7-2 win to improve to 5-1 overall, while Castleton drops to 2-3. Sage has now won three matches in a row heading into this weekend's home conference match with Houghton College on September 21.
Sage swept the doubles as they won all three flights. Leading the way was the Gator duo of senior Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) and sophomore Taylor Gillespie (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) earned a tight win at No. 2 doubles winning, 8-6 and kept their record perfect as they are now 5-0 with one another. At third doubles, Sage's senior Alison Trudo (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown) teamed with junior Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeysman) earned the 9-7 win after trailing 7-2 in the match.
Sage's Jackson added a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles to clinch the win for the Gators and puts her at 4-1 in singles play this season. Sophomore Kaitlin Banks (Annapolis, MD/Mt. Anthony Union) added a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles as well to help the Gators to the road match win.
