Newburgh, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team traveled to Mt. St. Mary College on Saturday for a noon-conference match with the Knights. Sage topped the Knights, 6-3 to improve to 4-1 on the year, while MSMC falls to 0-2.

Sage led 2-1 after doubles as No. 1 doubles went to the Knights' duo of senior Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, NY/Plainedge) and junior Victoria Clay (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) beat Sage's seniors Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and Sadie Dunne (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), 8-5.

The Gators got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 on the ladder. Sophomore Taylor Gillespie (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) teamed with sophomore Kaitlin Banks (Annapolis, MD/Mt. Anthony Union) posted their first win together, besting senior Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, NY/Liberty) and sophomore Katie Murray (Highland Falls, NY/Monroe Woodbury), 8-5. At No. 3 doubles, Sage's senior Alison Trudo (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown) teamed with junior Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeysman) earned an 8-4 win over junior Jessalyn Goetz (Ferndale, NY/Liberty) and sophomore Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park).

 

Carnovale topped Sage's Clobridge at first singles (6-3, 6-1), while Vernon added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Banks in the No. 4 spot of the singles ladder. At No. 6 single Cochrane added another win as she is perfect on the fall in singles with a 4-0 record. Gillespie is now 4-1 on the year in singles action as well in her first season with the Gators.

  

Next up Sage will be back in action on September 18 travelling to Castleton for a 4 p.m. match.
