Gators women's tennis wins at Elmira, 7-2

Pine Valley, NY— Freshman Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans) recorded her first career singles win as the Sage Colleges women's tennis team defeated host Elmira College, 7-2 Saturday in an Empire 8 match at the Murray Athletic Center. The Gators improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference while Elmira stands 0-6 overall and 0-3 in Empire 8 play.

Sage took two of the three doubles, the first and second. Juniors Sadie Dunne (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and co-captain Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lakes, NY/Averill Park) won by scores of 8-7 (7-1) over Cassie Brown and Katy Jewett. Juniors Julia Geisel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) had an 8-5 win at second doubles, defeating Elmira's Sarah Hill and Brandi Meeder. The Soaring Eagles took the third doubles as Cheyanne Holwell and Marta Kliszcz downed sophomores Alison Trudo (West Chazy, NY/ Beekmantown) and Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans), 8-3.

The guests won the 1-5 singles. Clobridge downed Hill, 6-3, 5-7 and 6-1 in the first, and Jackson defeated Brown by identical scores off 6-1. Dunne was the winner at three, 6-1, 6-0 over Holwell while Trudo won 6-1, 7-5 over Brandi Meeder. Cochrane won 6-2 and 6-0 over Regina Marchese.

Sage will play at Utica on Tuesday at a time to be announced.
