SAGE WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM TOPS ELMIRA IN EMPIRE 8 PLAY, 5-4
Troy, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the program's first Empire 8 match on Saturday with a home contest with Elmira College. The Gators extended their win streak as they beat Elmira, 5-4 on Saturday improving to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the league. Elmira drops to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8.
The Gators took second and third doubles behind the play of sophomore Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and senior Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) No. 2 doubles and seniors Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) and Shanice Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) at third doubles.
Sage collected a win at No. 1 singles from sophomore Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) as she had a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win. Sophomore Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) added decisive win at No. 4 singles to seal the win for the Gators, while Shanice Mendoza added a win at No. 5 singles for the team as well.
Montague is now 5-0 at No. 1 singles for the Gators, while Shanice Mendoza and Tolman are a perfect 4-0 together in doubles on the season.
Next up for the Gators they will host Castleton University on September 17 at Prospect Park at 1 p.m.
