At Sage:

2017 Team Captain

  • After playing one season for the Gators in 2013 with the women’s tennis team, Shanessa Mendoza returned after a year away. Went 7-3 in singles at No. 6 singles as a rookie for the Gators. Team went 8-6 and earned a spot in Skyline Tournament.
  • Added time in 2013 in doubles for Sage.
  • Played the spring of 2016 with Sage’s men’s tennis team and posted a 1-10 singles mark, while adding time in doubles play in 11 matches.
  • As a junior in 2016, she was also named to the 2016 Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete Team and was honored by the 2016-2017 ITA with a selection to the Scholar-Athlete Team as a member of the women’s and men’s teams.
  • On the 2016 season, she was 8-5 in singles with an impressive 8-4 record at the No. 3 singles position. She was 6-6 on the season in doubles competition.
  • Joined by her twin sister, Shanice Mendoza, Shanessa returns for her junior season with the women’s team.

 

Academics at Sage:

  • She is a computer information system major at Sage. She was named to the Dean’s List in 2016 and again in 2017.

 

High School:

  • A graduate of North Plainfield High School (NJ), she earned acclaim in tennis.

 

Personal:

  • A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Shanessa is joined on the team by her identical twin sister, Shanice. She has four sets of twins in her family as well. She has also coached tennis for the USA Sports Institute and works for Sage’s Athletic Communications Office.
  • She is the daughter of Nerissa de Souza and Kirt Alexander.
