Gators almost knock off unbeaten Yeshiva in tough loss, 5-4 - Sage Athletics

Queen, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team travelled to face Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference match on Sunday. The Gators gave unbeaten Yeshiva quite a match, but were unable to pull off the upset as they fell 5-4.

Yeshiva improves to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Skyline Conference, while Sage drops to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The Gators took No. 2 doubles as the pair of graduate performer Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) and junior Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) posted a win over the Maccabees tandem, 9-8 (11-9).

In singles play, Sage's Estremera added a win in three sets at No. 2 singles, while Shanessa Mendoza bested her opponent at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Emily Schultz (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) picked up a win at No. 5 singles to pace the Gators. With her performance on Sunday, junior Shanice Mendoza is now 6-2 in singles, while Estremera and Shanessa Mendoza are 5-3 in singled this fall.
