MCLA HALTS SAGE WOMEN'S TENNIS WIN STREAK WITH 5-3 WIN

Troy, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the Trailblazers of MCLA on Thursday in a non-conference match. MCLA posted a 5-3 win over the Gators to snap Sage's three-match win streak in the process. MCLA improves to 4-3, while Sage drops to 3-3.

MCLA took all three doubles matches to bring a 3-0 lead into the singles play after the tandem of junior Mariza Sfakianaki (Williamstown, MA/Mount Greylock) and junior Emily Deaso (Pittsfield, MA/Pittsfield) topped the gators duo of rookies Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park), 8-4.

At No. 2 doubles, MCLA's rookies Briana Higgins (Tewksbury, MA/Tewksbury) and Sarah Hachadourian (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) posted an 8-5 win over junior Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) and sophomore Emily Schultz (Wyantskill, NY/Averill Park). While at No. 3 doubles, the Trailblazers earned the 9-7 win over junior Shanice Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) and junior Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls).

In singles, Sage posted wins at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles, while the No. 1 flight was unfinished due to darkness. Shanessa Mendoza won at No. 3 singles over senior Anna Despart (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill), 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in the tie breaker. Schultz posted the win over Higgins at No. 5 also in three sets, 7-5, 0-6, 10-7, while Shanice Mendoza topped senior Shelby Gauthier (Clinton, MA/Clinton), 7-5, 6-1.
