Women's Tennis Tops Bears 9-0 in Skyline Action

Brooklyn, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team traveled to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn for a Skyline Conference match on Saturday. The Gators posted their second straight 9-0 win as they beat the Bears to improve to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Sage's rookie Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) added a win at No. 1 singles and teamed at No. 1 doubles with rookie Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) for another Gator win. At No. 1 singles, she beat Denise Tretotola, 7-5, 6-0 and is now 3-1 at No. 1 singles. Clobridge beat Emily Watts 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, while the Gator duo posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Tretotola and Mary Edward.

The Gators got a win in singles at the No. 2 singles as graduate performer Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) added a 6-0, 6-1 win on the day. Junior twin sisters Shanessa and Shanice Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) were victorious with wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles.

Also tallying wins in singles for the Gators was sophomore Emily Schultz (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) as she won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Shanice Mendoza and Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 8-0.

Sage is back in action on September 18 travelling to Green Mountain College for a 1p.m. non-conference match.
