Gators tally key win in home opener


Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the Spartans of Castleton State College on Tuesday afternoon at Prospect Park in the team's home opener. The Gators came away with a 7-2 win to improve to 2-1 on the year. Castleton drops to 0-4 on the year.

Sage's junior Kirsten Ackerman (Rensselear, NY/Guilderland) was a double winner as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over junior Meghan Susslin (St. Albans, VT/BFA-St. Albans) at No. 1 singles. She teamed at No. 1 doubles with senior Nicole Riley (Catskill, NY/Catskill) for an 8-5 win over Susslin and sophomore Sara Novenstern (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley).  Ackerman is now 16-0 lifetime at Sage in dual match singles play and 17-1 overall in singles as a Gator and is this week's reining Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Novenstern picked up a win at No. 2 singles for the Spartans as she beat Sage's freshman Erin Duffy (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill), 6-4, 7-6 (3).
