Women's Soccer Explodes for 6 goals as they top Medaille, 6-1

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Russell Sage College women's soccer team travelled to Medaille University on Saturday afternoon for an Empire 8 match-up. The Gators exploded for a season-high six goals en route to the 6-1 win.  The Gators (5-9-1/4-3-0 E8) led 3-1 at the break. Medaille drops to 2-9-2 overall and 0-6-1 in the league.

RSC forward Natalie Ricci (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), a graduate student, scored the first goal of the afternoon on a pass from junior forward Marissa Key (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) to spot the Gators the early lead, only to have the Mustangs tie the action six minutes later.

The Gators' junior forward Kennedy Jones (Albany, NY/Albany) tallied the go ahead goal at 23:10 before sophomore midfielder Brooke Galka (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) scored her first goal of the season and gave the team a 3-1 halftime lead.

By day's end, Ricci and Jones each netted two goals, while sophomore defender Amelia Geesler (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) connected for a goal to pace the team. Jones has four goals this fall iin her first season with the program.

Goalkeeper Mickaela Buzzy (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta), a graduate student, (4-3) made one save in the action and now has 155 career saves in 29 appearances and stands 10th all-time in the programs record book.

Ricci leads RSC this fall with 14 points on 5 goals and 4 assists and continues to add to her career resume. She checks in No. 7 in career goals (28), No. 13 in career assists (11), while her 67 career points is tied for sixth place.

Looking ahead, RSC hosts Utica on Wednesday afternoon. The final home game of the regular-season is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at ACP Stadium.
