Gators Edged 1-0 by St. John Fisher on "Senior Day"

2022 RSC Women's Soccer Senior Day

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College was edged 1-0 by visiting St. John Fisher this afternoon at the ACP Athletic Complex.

Freshman forward Jackie Gervais netted the lone goal of the Empire 8 Conference matinee in the 76th minute. The rookie skimmed a free kick from around 25 yards out into the lower left corner of the net.

Following the tally, the Cardinals (5-2-3/3-0-0 E8) increased its pressure on the RSC backs and midfielders, keeping the Gators on the defensive and making it difficult to gain the offensive zone. RSC, which was outshot 8-2 on the beautiful Sunday afternoon, did not attempt a shot during the final 14:45.

The Gators (4-7-1/3-1-0 E8), now tied with SJF at the top of the conference standings, are back on the pitch on Saturday, October 15 at Nazareth. The E8 contest is set to begin at noon.

Senior Day: Russell Sage College Athletics recognized three individuals before the contest as part of the "Senior Day" festivities. Senior midfielder Meredith Powell (Lee, MA / Monument Mountain Regional), senior defender Delaney Gillis (Hardwick, MA/Quabbin Regional), and manager Julia Gerringer, were lauded for their contributions to the women's soccer program.

Notes: The Gators returned 12 players from last season…Forward Natalie Ricci (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), a graduate student, headlines the dozen…The team captain ranks in the top-ten in school history for career points and career goals…Junior forward Marissa Key (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), who registered nine points last season, and all three goalkeepers are also back.
