Women's soccer falls 1-0 at WCSU

DANBURY, CT –Russell Sage College women's soccer team travelled to Connecticut on Tuesday night for a non-conference match-up with the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University. WCSU collected the 1-0 win to move to 4-4,while the loss puts RSC at 2-4-1.

The two teams played to a scoreless first half. WCSU's Suzana Imetovski scored the game-winner at 50:26 on a pass from Kyla Norton. Imetovski leads WCSU with six goals including two game-winners.

Junior defender Allison Basila (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) fired a shot at the 89:03 mark that was blocked keeping the Gators off the scoreboard in the final minute of the match. The Gators had seven corner kicks in the action and landed six of their 14 shots on goal.

Sophomore keeper Kiersten Lynch (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) started the game and played the first half with no goal allowed and three saves. Sophomore goalie Emma DeMatteo (Groton, NY/Groton Central) worked the second half, making six saves with one goal allowed and takes the loss, dropping to 1-2 in goal.

WCSU's senior Gia Giorgianni made six saves in earning the shutout win and is now 1-0 in goal.

The Gators return home on September 24 hosting Alfred University at ACP Stadium in a 2 p.m. Empire 8 match.
