SJFC takes E8 game from Gators

Pittsford, NY — Russell Sage College women's soccer squad traveled to St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon for a key Empire 8 match-up with the Cardinals. SJFC led 2-0 at the half before the Gators pulled within a goal, but a strong final nine minutes saw the Cardinals tally a 4-1 victory on Saturday. SJFC is now 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the E8, while the loss puts the Gators at 4-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.

RSC's senior Hallie Klosterman (Modena,NY/Wallkill) scored on a pass from graduate performer Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) at the 53:58 mark as the Gators pulled within a goal.  Junior Natalie Ricci (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) had a shot hit the cross bar at 78:22 as the Gators tried to tie the score. Minutes later, Malkiewicz had a shot at 80:38 that was just wide.

SJFC managed to pull ahead with a goal at 83:07 by Emma Spelman and a goal by Tori Cruz at 83:20 to put the Cardinals up 4-1.

Rookie keeper Kiersten Lynch (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) made for saves in the contest and is now 3-1.

Malkiewicz now has nine career assists which is tied for 19th best at RSC on the career list, while Klosterman now has 13 career goals and 36 career points.

 The Gators are back in action on October 13 traveling to Elms College for a non-conference matchup.
