Gators Edged 1-0 by No. 24 Hamilton

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College faced a stern challenge on Wednesday afternoon as nationally-ranked Hamilton visited the Albany College of Pharmacy Athletic Complex. The Continentals, ranked No. 24 in the latest United Soccer Coaches' national poll, proved their mettle to chalk up a 1-0 non-conference victory.

Junior forward Ashlyn Gaulin commenced the 67th minute by heading home a cross from junior defender Rylie Mutton for the lone goal.

During the afternoon, Hamilton engineered a 25-2 shot advantage and accumulated nine corners. Despite the somewhat tilted pitch, the Gators (2-5-2) played the visitors tightly throughout. Senior goalkeeper Mickaela Buzzy (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) (above) recorded a season-high 12 saves, many of which were off point-blank scoring opportunities, across the opening 74 minutes.  Freshman goalkeeper Kierstin Lynch (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) relieved the senior to register a stop during the final 15:59.

Looking ahead, both squads are in action on Saturday. Sage hosts Keuka at 4:00 pm. Meanwhile, Hamilton (4-0-2) plays at Colby at 11:00 am.


Gator-Aid: The game on Saturday, October 16th vs. Nazareth will be the inaugural "GatorAid" game...The 2:00 pm matinee will serve as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
