Castleton posts Double-OT win over Sage

Castleton, VT — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team was in action on Tuesday night facing Castleton University in a non-conference match. The Spartans triumphed 2-1 in double-overtime to improve to 7-7. The loss puts Sage at 7-6.

Castleton's Tatum Shappy scored the first goal of the match at the 56:31 mark to put the Spartans up 1-0. Sage's sophomore Angela Gonzalez (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) scored the tying goal at 62:30 on a feed from junior defender Reagan Fesette (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown) to tie the game and send it to overtime.

In the first overtime period, sophomore Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) had a shot blocked at 91:02, before Castleton had a series of shots but failed to put the ball on net. In the second overtime, Makenzi Bellando had a shot which Sage's rookie keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) made a save at the 100:17 mark.

The two teams played a scoreless first overtime period. Shappy added the game-winner with her seventh goal of the season at 102:34 to propel Castleton to the win.

Sage's Shertzer finished with 13 saves in the match. Castleton's Loren Henderson made three saves in earning the win.

Sage is back in action on October 19 hosting Houghton College in an Empire 8 match at 2 p.m. at ACP Stadium as they host their Coaches vs. Cancer games as the Sage men's team will also play at home on Saturday, taking on Utica College at 5:30 p.m.
