Ricci and Villa score to lead Sage past Delhi, 2-0

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi on Tuesday evening in a non-conference match-up. After playing to a scoreless first half, Sage collected the 2-0 win to improve to 7-4 overall. SUNY-Delhi drops to 5-5-1 on the year.

Sage's sophomore forward Natalie Ricci (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) collected the first goal of the night on a pass from junior midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) at 56:47 to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. Ricci, this week's Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week now leads the Gators scoring with her eight goal and 21 points. She boasts two game-winners this fall with her second one coming in the match on Tuesday.

After a series of shots off SUNY-Delhi's sophomore keeper Rachael Scoones (Waterville, NY/Waterville), Sage's senior midfielder and team captain Maegan Villa (Marlboro, NY/Washingtonville) managed to get a rebound and put it in for the goal for Sage at 84:05.

Sage's rookie keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) finished with four save in earning the win and picking up her fifth shutout of the season. Scoones made nine saves with a pair of goals allowed in dropping to 2-5 this fall.

Sage is back in action on October 12 travelling to Nazareth College for a 1 p.m. Empire 8 contest on Saturday.
