Shertzer and Ricci earn awards as Sage women's soccer team sweeps E8 awards

EMPIRE 8 TAPS RICCI AND SHERTZER AS WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Rochester, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team had both the offensive and defensive players of the week with the release of the latest Empire 8 Players of the Week on October 7. Sage's women's soccer team member, sophomore forward Natalie Ricci (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) earned Empire 8 Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this fall, while rookie goalie Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was picked as the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Sage went 2-0 last week with a pair of wins over SUNY-Poly and Alfred University in Empire 8 play. The Gators are now 6-4 overall with a 2-1 mark in the Empire 8.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Natalie Ricci, Sage, So., F, Cohoes, NY/Cohoes

Ricci scored four goals and added an assist for nine points in two wins to earn her second straight E8 weekly honor. She opened the week with a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over SUNY Poly on Wednesday. Ricci recorded her first hat-trick of the season, as Sage jumped to a 3-0 lead in a win over Empire 8 foe Alfred on Saturday. Ricci is second in the league with 19 points and leads all E8 players with 2.71 points per game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kallan Shertzer, Sage, Fr., GK, Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa

Shertzer made 14 saves in a 2-0 week for the Gators. She began the week by making five saves in a 2-0 win over SUNY Poly on Wednesday. On Saturday, Shertzer stopped nine shots in a 3-2 victory over Empire 8 rival Alfred. Shertzer is 6-4 in net with a 1.20 goals against average, .867 save percentage and four shutouts in 2019.

Sage is back in action on October 8 hosting SUNY-Delhi in a 7 p.m. non-conference match at ACP Stadium.
