Utica Tops Sage in E8 action on Saturday

UTICA POSTS 2-0 E8 VICTORY OVER SAGE IN WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAY

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Pioneers of Utica College in an Empire 8 match-up of a pair of unbeaten league opponents. Utica earned a 2-0 win over Saturday to remain unbeaten at 2-0 in the E8 and 7-2 overall, while the loss puts Sage at 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

               Utica took a 1-0 lead the at half as senior Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland) added a score at 38:12 on a feed from junior Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner). Blumenstock would score one more time unassisted in the second half at 83:28 for her second goal of the match and her team-leading 10th goal of the year. She leads the Pioneers with her 21 points.

Sage's rookie keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) finished with eight saves in the action in taking the loss. Utica's senior goalie Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) earned the win in goal after making five saves and is now 7-2 in net.

               Sage is back in action on October 2 travelling to SUNY-Poly for a 7 p.m. non-conference match with the Wildcats.
