Malkiewicz adds game-winner as Gators beat MCLA, 1-0

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday night in a non-conference match. The two teams were deadlocked until early in the second half when Sage's junior midfielder Lydia Malkiweicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) scored the only goal of the match to lift the Gators to their third straight win. Sage is now 3-1 on the year, while MCLA drops to 0-3.

               Malkiewicz scored the unassisted goal at 52:52 for her third of the season and second game-winner on a shot about 24 yards out over the top of MCLA's senior keeper, Megan Richardson (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley).

For the game, Sage took 30 shots and held MCLA to just four and were led by rookie keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) as she earned her third straight career shutout after making four saves on the night. Richardson finished with 14 saves in taking the loss.

               Sage is back in action on September 17 travelling to RPI for a non-conference game with the Engineers. MCLA is back in action on September 11 hosting Castleton at 6 p.m.
