Malkiewicz scores twice to lead Sage past John Jay, 3-0

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Sunday night in the Gators' 2019 home opener. Sage posted a 3-0 win as junior midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Center) scored twice in the contest. With the win, Sage is now 1-1, while John Jay drops to 0-2.

Malkiewicz scored the first goal on a feed from sophomore Angela Gonzalez (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) at the 34:46 mark spotting Sage to a 1-0 halftime lead. Sophomore forward Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) scored on a penalty kick at 45:27 before Malkiewicz scored the final goal of the night on a feed from Klosterman at 48:00.

Sage's rookie keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) earned her first career shutout after turning away 11 of the 12 shots she faced. John Jay's sophomore keeper Brittany Shaneberger (South Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) took the loss after making six saves with three goals allowed in 66 plus minutes of work before being subbed for on a collision in the box. Junior Erika Estro (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) finished the time in net for the Bloodhounds.

Sage is back in action on September 4 hosting Bard College in a 7 p.m. non-conference match at ACP field, while John Jay College visits Manhattanville College on September 4 for a 4 pm match-up.
