CORTLAND STATE COLLECTS 1-0 WIN OVER SAGE IN WOMEN'S SOCCER ON OPENING NIGHT

Cortland, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team opened their 2019 season on the road at SUNY-Cortland. The Red Dragons scored the only goal of the match at the 9:35 mark and held on for the 1-0 win over the Gators. With the win, Cortland stands at 1-0, while Sage falls to 0-1 on the year.

Cortland's Sabrina Rodrigues scored the game-winner at 9:35 off a rebound of the initial save by Sage's rookie keeper, Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa).

Sage pushed the Red Dragons but could not get a shot passed the Red Dragons' Danika Svendsen, who earned the shutout. Shertzer finished with 14 saves in her debut, which is tied for 8th all-time in single-game performances with Emma Augustine from a 2017 match-up with Hamilton.  A year ago, Cortland lost in the SUNYAC finals and finished the season with an 11-5-2 record and Svendsen allowed just nine goals in 15 matches played in 2018.

Sage is back in action on September 1 hosting John Jay College at ACP Stadium on Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Gators' home opener.
