Trimblett headlines Gators honored by Empire 8

SAGE WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM PLACES FIVE ON 2018 EMPIRE 8 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team had five players honored with the release of the 2018 Empire 8 Women's Soccer All-Star Team. Sage capped the 2018 campaign with their first appearance in the Empire 8 tournament after garnering the No. 4 seed. The Gators posted a record of 10-7-2 on the season with a record of 4-3-1 in the Empire 8.

Headlining the list of honorees from Sage is senior forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) as she is the first Gator women's soccer player to earn a spot on the Empire 8 First Team in women's soccer. A current candidate for the 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, Trimblett set the career record for assists at Sage and finished her stellar career having been the Gators' leading scorer in all four of her seasons on the team. She closed her career with 22 points on nine goals with four assists and two game-winning goals.  Trimblett wrapped up one of the best careers of any Gator in women's soccer history. She closes her time in a Sage uniforms as the all-time career leader in assists at Sage with 24 and finishes with 114 career points, ranking second all-time in Sage women's soccer annals. She tallied 45 career goals, which is third best at Sage.

Named to the 2018 Empire 8 Second Team from Sage were senior defender Nicole Bauer (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), senior forward Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) and junior midfielder Maegan Villa (Marlboro, NY/Washingtonville).

Bauer recorded her 71st career start in the final match of the season and is the only player in program history to start in 70 or more games. She added one goal in 2018 and helped Sage collect four shutouts as well as she anchored the defense. Over her career, she helped the Gators tally 25 shutouts over the last four years and played in 72 matches since 2015.

On the 2018 season, Marfone had a personal-best campaign and was the team's second leading scorer with 20 points on nine goals with two assists and led the Gators with her four game-winning goals. Marfone finished sixth in career assists (16), tied for ninth in goals (24), and tied for eighth in points (64) and also set the career games played mark at Sage with 74.  

Villa started all 19 games on the season and had nine points on two goals with five assists. In her three seasons at Sage, she has now played in 55 matches and has 26 points on eight goals with 10 assists and has three career game-winning goals.

Rookie midfielder Alexa Petrovic (Winslow, ME/Winslow) was named to the 2018 Empire 8 Sportswoman Team for her outstanding efforts at Sage this past season. A newcomer, she played in nine matches at Sage.

One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2018 Women's Soccer Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
