Hartwick holds on for 2-0 women's soccer win

Albany, N.Y. –  Hartwick College's women's soccer team ended the regular season with their eighth shutout of the year in a 2-0 win over The Sage Colleges at the Albany College of Pharmacy Sports Complex Tuesday night.

The Hawks improve to 9-7-1 overall and an Empire 8 mark of 5-3. Sage, who has one game remaining in the regular season, stands 9-6-2 and 3-3-1 in the conference. Senior goalkeeper Emma Augustine (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) made five saves on the night for Sage while Cassandra Robataille stopped four for the Hawks. Hartwick had 19 shots to Sage's 12 and the Hawks had six of the seven corners.

At 29:08, Gabrielle Kreppein sent a cross from the left corner area directly in front to Rachel Weir, who shot home her fourth of the season for the Hawks. Hartwick outshot the Gators, 13-5, including the final eight shots of the half.

Sage had back-to-back glistening chances to tie the game with just over 35 minutes left in the second half. Junior midfielder Giovanna Fichera (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) took a drive from the middle after breaking through defenders but was denied with a leaping save from Robataille with 35:15 to play in regulation. Just four seconds later, after the rebound came out in front, Robataille dove to her right to stop a shot from senior midfielder Arianna Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie).

The Gators had the first six shots of the second half. But Gabrielle Kreppein added insurance with 11:09 left in the second. She took a high shot from the left side that rose just over Augustine into the net for the 2-0 lead. It was the seventh score of the season for the sophomore midfielder.

Sage closes out the regular season on Friday as the Gators host Alfred University for Senior Night at 7:00 p.m. at ACP.
