Trimblett scores four in 6-1 win at Houghton

Houghton, NY – Senior forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) scored a season high four goals for The Sage Colleges in a 6-1 women's soccer victory at Houghton College Saturday afternoon. The Gators improved to 9-5-2 for the season and 3-2-1 in the Empire 8. The Highlanders are 5-5-3 for the fall and 0-5-2 in the conference.

Trimblett's big day moved her up in the career rankings at Sage. She now has 113 career points, moving her two points past Kelly Richer '94 for second all-time in Sage women's soccer annals. She now lies just two points behind Rebecca Marszalek '11, who is the all-time points leader with 115. Trimblett now has 45 career goals, three behind Richer, who is second all-time with 48.

Sage outshot Houghton, 7-1 in the first half, and 17-9 for the game. The Gators had four of the six corners and senior goalkeeper Emma Augustine (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville) made three saves for the visitors. Rachael Fortney made seven stops in the first 43 minutes for Houghton while Sadie Dunnett stopped one in the final 47 minutes of play.

Trimblett had a natural hat trick to start the game with a 3-0 lead for Sage. She scored an unassisted goal just 3:57 into the contest, and just under seven minutes later, made it 2-0 with a goal at 9:46 with an assist coming from sophomore forward Samantha Schmidt (Schenectady, NY/Monohasen). Trimblett's third of the half came at 22:16 with an unassisted goal. Sophomore defender Emily Davenport (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) scored her first of the fall with an unassisted tally at 29:35, and it was 4-0 after a dominating half by the Gators.

At 59:19, Trimblett scored her fourth of the day and ninth of the season. She was assisted on the play by sophomore midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central). Sierra Neddo broke the shutout bid when she got a pass from Jessica Beattie at 65:44 for Houghton's lone goal. Senior forward Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) scored her eighth of the year for the Gators with an assist from junior midfielder Maegan Villa (Marlboro, NY/Washingtonville) coming at 73:07 to provide the 6-1 final.

The seven goals were the second most for the Gators in a game this season. On October 9, Sage defeated SUNY Poly, 7-1 at home.

Two regular season games remain on the schedule for the Gators. Tuesday night, Sage will host Hartwick at 7:00 p.m. and on Friday it will be Senior Night for a game against Alfred, also at 7 p.m.
